Pierce entering the Theatre Royal in LondonThe TimesJobless 'hoodies' win royal patronBy Alan Hamilton February 21, 2006 THE Prince of Wales held his own version of the Oscars ceremony yesterday and declared himself the hoodies’ friend. He handed over achievement awards at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Prince’s Trust. He told his audience: “Every young person has some talent or ability and too many go through life without this being unlocked. The result is an often overpowering lack of self-worth.” Many of these young people were dismissed as youths, hoodies, thugs or whatever. “But they are not faceless and nameless. They are individuals, and all I want my trust to do is invest in their futures.” Celebrity trust ambassadors including Pierce Brosnan, Gary Lineker and Jade Jagger introduced the winners. The top award went to Shenica Williamson, 18, from Dartford, Kent, who has overcome a traumatic childhood and unemployment to train as a community care worker.
