Neither oscars.org nor oscar.com lists Pierce among the presenters. I'll set up my VCR anyway.

So there was no Pierce after all. Nevertheless the show had its moments (though most of them were the clip montages from different movies ). One of my favourites though was George Clooney's acceptance speech.

I didn't see any of the show. What did ol' George (no relation, btw) have to say? cg

George Clooney's acceptance speech, pieced together from different articles: msnbc.msn.com/id/11691623/A year of hard-edged movies didn’t produce political or controversial Oscar speeches on Sunday night. Instead, George Clooney ruled the podium — even during speeches he didn’t give.
Clooney won the ceremony’s first statuette, for best supporting actor in “Syriana,” and did so graciously.
“All right, so I’m not winning [best] director,” said Clooney, who later lost in the directing and screenplay categories for “Good Night, and Good Luck.”
The actor-director seemed to recognize what his first Oscar would do to his legacy.
“It’s a funny thing about winning an Academy Award, this will always be sort of synonymous with your name from here on. Oscar-winner George Clooney, sexiest man alive 1997, ‘Batman,’ died today in a freak accident.”
But the dark-haired leading man also came up in other acceptance speeches.
Howard Berger, co-winner for makeup for “The Chronicles of Narnia,” said, “Well, I’m just glad that Clooney doesn’t do makeup.”abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/Oscars2006/story?id=1694017&page=1Is proud liberal George Clooney on the winning side of history? When accepting his Oscar for best supporting actor, the Kentucky native took on the critics who say Hollywood is out of touch with America.
"We're the ones who talked about AIDS when it was just being whispered," the 44-year-old star told the audience. "And we talked about civil rights when it wasn't really popular. This academy — this group of people — gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar in 1939 when blacks were still sitting in the backs of theaters. I'm proud to be a part of this academy, proud to be part of this community, and proud to be out of touch."
